Scholarship America Sponsor Q&A: TireHub’s Road to Education Scholarship

Scholarship America Sponsor Q&A: TireHub’s Road to Education Scholarship

By Scholarship America

TireHub serves as a national distributor for Bridgestone and Goodyear tires, keeping America driving. Their goal is simple but never easy: to serve customers the right tire at the right time. Tire dealerships rely on TireHub to supply tires that keep their customers operating safely and efficiently.

We wanted to learn more about the inspiration behind TireHub’s Road to Education scholarship program, so we spoke with Leon McIntosh, TireHub’s Director of Talent and Employee Relations.

Leon has served TireHub employees (affectionately known as Hubbers) since the company was established in 2018, applying his more than 30 years of leadership experience to making TireHub a great place to work.

Scholarship America: What’s your role at TireHub, and how do you work with the Road to Education scholarship program?

Leon McIntosh: As Director of Talent and Employee Relations, I am responsible for creating and managing programs that enable our employees and their families to achieve their goals while at TireHub. As a part of that responsibility, I make sure the scholarship program provides that value and support to our hourly employees each year.

SA: How does the scholarship program complement your talent recruitment and retention efforts?

LM: It is a program offered only to two roles in the organization. These two roles, which are driving positions, are high-turnover, and make up 85% of our employee base. This means that the program helps us to attract and retain the most critical position in the organization, and by making it exclusive to these two roles, it communicates to our employees that this role is important.

SA: Why does TireHub feel it’s so important to invest in scholarships for employees’
children?

LM: Simply put, it’s the right thing to do. Our employees work hard for TireHub; this is a small way of giving back.

SA: How do you think the Road to Education initiative will impact your future workforce?

LM: TireHub is committed to ensuring our employees and their families understand the value they provide to our company. With the current economic conditions, and the rapid inflationary increases in the costs associated with higher education, the Road to Education initiative helps our workforce understand that we value them, helps them to achieve their goals, and increases the likelihood they stay at TireHub.

SA: What advice would you give to future applicants?

LM: Apply. Too few employees take advantage of the opportunity. If in doubt, ask. We want to hear from you and understand how we can make the Road to Education initiative more impactful.

TireHub’s Road to Education scholarship is open for applications now! If you’re a Hubber, visit https://learnmore.scholarsapply.org/tirehub/ for eligibility guidelines.
